After years of reading Model Railroader, I’ve cancelled my subscription. This new app has been nothing but a problem, and after never getting help from customer support to download the latest issue, I’m done. And by the way, I’m in IT and know what I’m doing. The problems with this app aren’t user error, they’re the fault of a terrible app and zero customer support.
All, Buyers beware, Kalmbach has changed their delivery system and this app doesn’t work for new editions. Don’t sign up for a subscription!
If MR is trying to go out of business then this app is a wonderful step in that direction. I am totally astonished that they would release an app this terrible! Did no one ever bother to test this thing? The update to this textbook example of how NOT to write an app has been up for 11 months and no one has bothered to fix this? Good bye Model Railroader! If you cannot take care of your customer base then you don’t deserve to have any customers.

Are you ever going to fix this app? Don’t waste your time/money on this app. You think they would get the hint that something is wrong since they have a 1.0 rating and no positive comments.
Sadly the redesign is clunky and just bad, not mobile friendly at all and makes it darn impossible to find anything. I have also as yet been able to restore my purchases, highly recommend avoiding this app all together until they address the problems and the horrendous user experience.
All my purchases aren’t restoring. Please fix. With the new app, I try to log into my account and it won’t load.
You should refund not only our current subscription, but our past subscriptions since this app makes it ridiculously difficult to access issues we have paid for. This needs to be fixed immediately. I can’t believe you are just allowing this to continue.
This is the second time I have everything! They give you free doors then they take them away! It does not merit a rating!!
This app does not work. You are trying hard to save your print business by offering a combined digital subscription also, but your digital offering is garbage.

The latest version of this app is a step backwards. While I have been able to restore and view my purchases, I have not been able to purchase a single issue since the update. When I attempt to purchase a single issue, I am often only given options to subscribe, or frequently no options at all. There are no features to view/filter on your purchases or downloads. Scrolling thru the list of available issues is buggy and slow. On top of all this, my requests to customer support have never been answered. I’m using a 32GB iPad (7th gen) with IOS 13.1.1
This version of the app does not work. Cannot restore all of my purchases. Cannot access my issues.
The old app worked just fine. The new app won’t accept my username and password. Then when I tried to get specific app help from the help link in iTunes, the subsequent link to Kalmbach is broken. And the folks at Kalmbach claim it’s an iTunes issue.

This application only seems to support selling subscriptions via iTunes. I can’t use it to log in to my account and view issues.
This version is much worse than the previous. It’s so bad that this is the first review I have ever submitted for any iPhone app...and I have used some pretty bad apps. I currently use an IPhone 8 Plus...the app crashes back to a main screen while trying to load. If it does load, it doesn’t load all of the past issue covers and when I click to download or read an issue, it freezes. It’s enough to just not bother with Model Railroader mag any more.
The last app was cumbersome not having a “search “ for the archives,! However this is even worse. Issues paid for have been taken. I ve been a subscriber for years. I won’t be back after being treated like this. Great solution to hear your customers, your app won’t post my review. Hopeless
I lost access to all the previous purchased issues. I do not have a model railroader login, I purchased everything through Apple. Your support team is less then useless in trying to fix this. Everytime I try to restore purchases with my Apple account, you dumb app just locks up. I want my issues restored or my money refunded.
I had dozens of previously purchased issues aside from a subscription. All issues are now locked and I cannot restore prior purchases. Please remedy this issue immediately. I have lost all confidence in the publisher. Will they refund me for all the list issues?
With the new update, I can no longer login to view issues. They are all locked down. Please fix
Whilst the new version of the app looks really nice, restore purchases is not working so all my magazines are gone. Fix immediately please.
I subscribed to this magazine on my ipad. With the app update all the editions are locked. When I select one, it asks for a password. Password for what? I subscribed via in-app purchase on my ipad. Never set up a username and password for MR. In the IOS subscriptions it says I’m paid up through Feb 2020. I clicked a button to Restore Purchases, but nothing happened. Also in the app store the App support link is broken - gives a 404 not found page. Was this tested at all??
I am a long-time subscriber to Model Railroader Magazine including paying extra for the digital versions. When I saw the MR App I assumed this would this would work as well as the Zinio platform through which I have access to my digital subscription. But no! I have to pay for digital issues in the MR app for which I have already paid. So, don’t get this app! Use Zinio. It’s free and works with existing digital subscriptions.
Jan 2019. Hire someone to get this to work. I paid for paper & digital. Have not received an issue on paper. (2 months) Digital is not working. Disappointed? Yes. At least I have O gauge modeler, their site does work. Easily.
I too have been unable to view anything for over a month. Still waiting on an update that will actually let me open the app, let alone actually view he magazine I still get charged for.
This app has been broken for over a month. Lots of iPad users have been reporting that it doesn't open, just crashes at launch. So instead of fixing it, they put out an "update" that resets the review counter but DIDN'T FIX THE APP. That's right, they issued an update that they must have known wouldn't solve the problem. Just trying to cover their butts. Seriously bad juju here. It costs $40 bucks for a subscription and we've now gone two issues that we can't open. Unacceptable in the extreme. I'm running an iPad Pro with all the latest updates. This problem is definitely on Kalmbach's end. When you've got one of the more expensive apps out there, you have a responsibility to make sure the thing works. DO NOT buy this app until the publisher fixes it.
I had an Android Galaxy S2-based subscription, but bought a new iPad Pro and the app doesn't work. Took my money, but says "iTunes failure." NOT ACCEPTABLE...fix this.

App is crashing on launch. Use TestFlight to test App Store binaries before release. Good iOS app development processes 101.

Subscribed for 2 years, after last update of the app all my purchases are gone. Used to be good.
I was hoping this would be a iPhone friendly version of their website. Allowing me to watch videos, interact on the forum, etc. Not realizing it was only a catalog to purchase back issues of MR magazine. Disappointed.
Same issue with an xml file missing. Tried to contact Kalmbach but getting the run around. Hope they fix this soon.
I have been using this application for almost 2 years with no problems. Worked great up to when I tried to download the June 2016 issue. Was getting an error ‘xml file not found’ 3 calls to Kalmbach customer service and on 3rd call I was was told to call the digital provider. I said the problem is not mine and you need to call them. I was told they can not make outbound calls and gave me the number of the digital provider. Worse customer service experience ever. Will not be using this app or have a digital subscription through Kalmbach anymore.
Some of my monthly previews have been deleted and I have not been able to reinstall them
I paid for the paper/digital subscription away from the app and now when I look at this months digital edition it asks for payment, am I missing something?

Always crashes when i start the app
I hadn't opened it in a few weeks and I tried to read an issue yesterday (17 Dec 2013) and it crashes on launch every single time.
I have tried for 24 hours to read the March 2013 issues. All it shows is some boxes and the network busy wheel. If I am unable to read soon I will want a refund.
Finally MRR has an app! First to download ;)
